PRE-MATCH ANALYSIS

The long wait is finally over as hosts Russia take on Saudi Arabia in the opening game of the 2018 World Cup finals! This event will hold at Luzhniki Stadium, the main national venue. Will the home side win after seven matches without victory?

Russia as host of this World Cup was free from the qualifying games. Stanislav Cherchesov’s team had two types of the playing practice – official and unofficial one. Last year Russians took part in the home Confederations Cup. They beat an evident outsider New Zealand and lost to Mexico and Portugal. Thus, they could not be promoted to the play-offs.

The home side had a long series of friendlies that began and ended with the clashes against the same rival Turkey. An overall record contained seventeen fixtures with four wins, six draws and seven losses.

Its unsuccessful line included seven matches. The last victory dated on October 07 there Russia beat South Korea with a huge score 4:2.

Saudi Arabia comes back to the World Cup after twelve years of absence. This will be its fourth appearance on the final stage. Juan Antonio Pizzi’s team possessed the second place in the Asian qualifying group B and has been advanced directly to the Russian World Cup. The Green Falcons earned nineteen points after ten games as well as Australia. Saudi Arabia has a small advantage due to the overall goal difference. It has six wins, a draw and three losses. The Saudis have lost three friendly matches in a row - albeit to strong opposition in Italy, Peru and World Cup holders Germany.

Possible line-ups
Russia: Igor Akinfeev; Mario Fernandes, Fedor Kudryashov, Sergey Ignashevich, Yuri Zhirkov; Roman Zobnin, Daler Kuzyaev, Alan Dzagoev, Aleksandr Samedov, Aleksandr Golovin; Fedor Smolov

Saudi Arabia: Abdullah Al-Mayouf; Usamah Husawi, Omar Hosawi, Yasser Al-Shahrani, Mohammed Al-Barik; Abdullah Otif, Salman Al-Faraj, Yahya Al-Shihri, Taisir Al-Jassim, Salem Al Dosari; Fahad Al-Molad

Both sides will also be hoping for victory at the Luzhniki to end a barren run at the global finals: Russia have not won at the World Cup since 2002, while Saudi Arabia’s last global finals’ victory came at USA 1994. We believe, the hosts being favorites will crush the guests. We recommend to bet on Russia’s victory with an Asian handicap of (-1) with a nice coefficient of 1.75.
